YDB Copper Turkish Greek Armenian Coffee Pot (KDA Series) Review

This review focuses on the YDB copper Armenian/Turkish coffee pot. Any company that has the motto ‘You Deserve Better’ is just asking to have their products scrutinized and gone over with a fine-toothed comb. 

So that’s exactly what we did with this Armenian coffee pot. To give you a sneak peek, we’re pretty impressed with it for the most part, but there are a couple things you need to know before you pull the trigger on buying this pot. 

YDB Copper Coffee Pot features Quality & Durability

First and foremost, this line of coffee pots is pretty well-made. It uses 2mm thick copper, so you can expect better durability in the long run, as well as improved resistance to denting or damage due to high heat. 

While the entire exterior is made of high quality copper, the inside is lined in tin. This means you don’t have to worry about any toxic metals being released into your coffee. 

As with most handmade coffee pots and Armenian coffee sets, this one is not dishwasher safe. Moreover, the exterior coating on top of the copper requires you to be a bit more careful, even when washing by hand, so that you don’t damage it or expose the copper underneath. 

Capacity

You have the option of choosing between Small, Medium, Large, and this XX Large, that’s so big that they skipped the X Large!

It is rated for a total of 28 fl oz., 23 of which can be used effectively. 

That’s plenty for 5-6 coffee mugs, or if you prefer, 10-12 demitasse cups of traditional Turkish coffee. 

Design

YDB went with a cool two-tone look, where the color of the base of the cezve pot is matte copper, and then the rest is a dull, antique copper. 

The antique copper is treated to a unique finish that gives it a perforated leather look. It’s unlike anything else we’ve seen, and definitely stands out from the crowd of coffee pots. 

A wooden handle makes for easier pouring and brewing without the risk of getting burnt. This handle is detachable, and there is a metal ring on the end, which allows you to hang the pot from a hook when it isn’t being used. 

It also has a spout that makes for easier, spill-free pouring. 

Price

The YDB lineup covers every price point. As such, we think all of their pots, even the larger ones, are competitively priced. And if they are a bit more expensive than some other brands, you can rest assured that the quality is equally improved. 

Customer Support

This brand is pretty active on Amazon, answering customer queries and offering useful advice for cleaning, brewing, and the like. 

Additional Features

You won’t get a ton of additional features with this ibrik. But in our opinion, the durable build and large size mean this pot doesn’t need to lean on any gimmicks to offer a worthwhile package. 

Still, it is fully compatible with various cooking surfaces, including gas, electric, and induction. We did find that because of the tapered bottom edge, its performance on electric stoves is a bit worse than others, but nothing you need be concerned about. 

Other things you can use the YDB Turkish coffee pot for

The large size of this pot means you can use it for heating milk or boiling water. The metal ring on the handle means it is pretty much ready to be hung in your living room or den as a nice conversation starter.

Amazon Rating

Amazon gives this line of pots 4.5 stars, based on 82 ratings. Buyers speak highly of the unique design and the high quality materials used throughout the build. 

Electric stove users point out the slightly lacking performance for coffee brewing, but still report being satisfied with their purchase overall. 

Editor’s Conclusion

Our review of the YDB Turkish coffee pot just goes to show that there are still some ‘old-school’ cezve options out there. This is apparent from the almost obsessive attention to the design and build quality, and other practical features.
